A developer, inspired by their child's love of mazes and Sean C. Jackson's work, built a 3D isometric maze game from scratch. Finding existing maze apps lacking, they documented their learnings on both aesthetic and technical aspects of 3D rendering. Starting with just boxes and spheres as primitives, they constructed the maze from boxes and chose a snowman as the player character. The project involved working with lighting (three lights total) and isometric projection — a first foray into 3D for the author.
